Xiangshuigou is located in Guanyintang Village, Hejiayan Town, approximately 16.4 kilometers southeast of Liangya County. The mouth of the gully is about 300 meters from the Miankang Highway (Provincial Highway 309). With year-round flowing water, it earned the name Xiangshuigou ("Echoing Water Gully") because the water crashing against the rocky walls creates thunderous sounds with far-reaching echoes. The area features lush mountains, layered peaks, cascading waterfalls, and serene pools, making for a pleasant landscape. Hiking up along the gully, which stretches about 4.5 kilometers in length, you’ll find over 30 stone pools, waterfalls, and peculiar rocks. The entire stream bed is composed of rock, and through the erosion of flowing water, it has formed uniquely shaped rock ditches, grooves, basins, bowls, and pits—each one distinct and fascinating. The stone pits are formed by the impact of water flow, featuring round bottoms and steep walls that gather water into pools. At the outlet, there is an open crevice through which people can enter. Several spots require climbing up rocky cliffs, with challenges and dangers comparable to those on Mount Huashan. Xiangshuigou stands out for its "novelty, thrill, and cool summer temps." With deep valleys, rapid streams, numerous pools, and winding paths, it’s ideal for adventurers and explorers, offering excitement and a thrilling experience. The gully also boasts vast bamboo forests, a Tujia ethnic stronghold from the late Qing Dynasty, a horse-training racecourse, as well as rare flora and fauna. It has been designated as a provincial-level ecological development demonstration project. With an average elevation of 1,300 meters, annual rainfall of 1,150 millimeters, and an average annual temperature of 12.5°C, the area enjoys beautiful surroundings and is hailed as the "Little Jiuzhaigou."
The village where Xiangshuigou is located, Guanyintang, enjoys a pleasant climate, rich vegetation, and picturesque scenery. It was once a settlement of the Qiang people's ancestors, and some of their unique cultural elements remain, giving the area distinctive regional characteristics. With its stunning landscape, it is suitable for general visitors to explore and relax.
