Xianmi Forest Park is the largest forested area in Qinghai Province. The park covers three towns in Menyuan County—Dongchuan, Xianmi, and Zhugu—spanning 55 kilometers from north to south and 95 kilometers from east to west, with a total land area of 148,000 hectares. In 1996, the park was approved as a provincial-level forest park, and in 2003, it was upgraded to a national forest park. Due to the influence of the Qilian Mountains, the park has abundant surface water and groundwater resources, serving as the source of numerous rivers in the southern Yellow River system and the northern inland river systems. The forested area within the park totals 67,300 hectares, with a forest coverage rate of over 95%. The area is home to more than 100 plant families and over 900 species. Additionally, the park boasts a rich variety of wildlife, including over 40 species of mammals such as snow leopards, blue sheep, red deer, and white-lipped deer; 139 species of birds such as blue-eared pheasants and black-necked cranes; 15 species of amphibians and reptiles such as forest frogs and spotted snakes; and 14 species of freshwater naked carp.
