Lingying Mountain Grotto Temple

Introduction Lingying Mountain Grotto Temple is located 37 kilometers from Yanchi County. It is a temple that combines Buddhism and Taoism. Known for its efficacy—"every prayer is answered"—it is thus named Lingying Temple (Temple of Responsive Blessings). Carved into the mountain, the temple features 13 grottoes arranged in a semi-circle, each with its own title. The statues inside the grottoes are exquisitely crafted, lifelike, and full of character, seemingly ready to speak. The murals display bold designs, harmonious colors, and fine brushwork. Legend has it that the temple was built by General Jingde of the Tang Dynasty and is now a county-level cultural heritage site.
Lingying Mountain Grotto Temple not only boasts a long history but also features dramatic landscapes. It embodies profound religious culture as well as the wild charm of rugged mountains. During temple fairs, worshippers flock here in great numbers, keeping the incense burning ceaselessly. It is Yanchi’s most renowned religious and cultural tourism destination.
