Chujun Temple

The First Temple Along the Thousand-Li Gan River —— Chujun Temple in Gan County. With a long history, Chujun Temple has long been honored as the “First Temple Along the Thousand-Li Gan River.” It is situated in Chutan Township, Gan County. According to the Chinese Dictionary of Ancient and Modern Place Names, during the Jin Dynasty, Governor Zhu Rui stationed Prince Chu here, hence the name. The ancient temple covers an area of over two thousand square meters, featuring exquisitely carved beams and painted rafters, and boasts a majestic atmosphere. In front of the temple are plaques inscribed with titles such as “Ancient Guangji Temple” and “Tang Dynasty Imperial Grant.” Chujun Temple is not only a sacred site of Taoism but also an outstanding gem of ancient architecture. One of its corners collapsed and, despite multiple repairs, kept falling down again, leaving it unrestored to this day — the architectural principles behind this phenomenon are worth exploring. Chutan Township is also home to Chushan Mountain, Tiangong Temple, Chujun Pavilion, and the “Chutan Morning Moon,” one of the Eight Scenic Spots of Ganzhou, making it a tourist destination that combines both cultural and natural landscapes.
