Winter Melon Seeds
Winter melon, also known as Trichosanthes kirilowii, is a perennial herbaceous vine of the Cucurbitaceae family. It grows in dense valley forests and slope shrubs at altitudes of 100 to 1,800 meters, where the climate is mild and moist, drawing the "essence" of mountains and waters. It is a valuable traditional Chinese medicinal herb. According to pharmacological texts such as *Compendium of Materia Medica*, *Chinese Materia Medica Dictionary*, *Chinese Medical Encyclopedia*, and *Chinese Herbal Medicine Records*, its peel, seeds, and roots can all be used medicinally, offering benefits such as moistening the lungs and resolving phlegm, reducing heat and coughing, soothing the chest and dispersing nodules, reducing swelling and detoxifying, as well as lubricating the intestines and easing constipation. The *Compendium of Materia Medica* states that roasted winter melon (Trichosanthes kirilowii) seeds can help treat fatigue, dry mouth, nourish the heart and lungs, and reduce wrinkles on the hands and face. Modern research and authoritative testing have found that winter melon seeds contain unsaturated fatty acids, proteins, and other nutrients.
