Baodi Scallions is a geographical indication agricultural product.
One of the traditional cash crops known as the "Three Pungents" in Baodi District, the five-leaf scallion
The scallion and Tianying pepper were new varieties introduced to Baodi by local residents in the 1950s and 1960s. After decades of cultivation and improvement, these two varieties gradually adapted to Baodi’s soil structure and climate, developing their own unique qualities and traits. The five-leaf scallion is characterized by its relatively tall plant height, tender and plump white stalks that do not form tillers, and a mildly sweet and spicy flavor. When fresh, the high moisture content gives it a slightly sweet taste. Compared to other types of scallions, one of its unique advantages is its exceptional storage capability—it can be stored for over six months, from November harvest through May or June of the following year. Its medicinal value in preventing cardiovascular and cerebrovascular diseases is also well documented.
