　　Jinghe watermelon is a specialty of Jinghe Town, Baoying County, Yangzhou, Jiangsu.

　　　　With convoys of trucks loaded with watermelons departing from the 10,000-mu Watermelon Farming Base in Jinghe Town, Baoying County, heading to major cities such as Shanghai and Hangzhou across the country, it marks this year's booming production and sales of the "Jinhe" brand. Farmers in the project area have deeply felt the tangible benefits brought to them by the agricultural comprehensive development that has driven industrial restructuring. The cultivation of watermelons in Jinghe Town, Baoying County, began as early as 1985. However, due to constraints such as inconvenient road transportation, inadequate irrigation and drainage systems, and limited varieties, the planting area was small and yields were relatively low. After the fifth phase of the agricultural comprehensive development project incorporated Jinghe Town into its development zone, a total of 3.6696 million yuan was invested in the development, including 2.7032 million yuan in fiscal funds. Through the development efforts, village roads were built, high-standard irrigation and drainage facilities were constructed, and the project area basically achieved the “five modernizations”: hardened roads, lined ditches, equipped facilities, mechanized operations, and forested farmland. These improvements created favorable conditions for large-scale planting of pollution-free watermelons. In recent years, the watermelon planting area in Datong Village and Songzhu Village within the project area has increased exponentially. Initially grown in just five villages, greenhouse watermelon cultivation has now expanded to 15 villages across the town, covering an area of more than 5,000 mu. This has greatly increased farmers’ income, with the core area of about 1,000 mu within the project zone seeing per capita watermelon income increase by over 500 yuan. The "Jinhe" brand watermelon from the town was approved as a pollution-free product by the province in 2002, and the Jinghe Watermelon Garden has been listed as a featured demonstration garden in Yangzhou City and a high-quality watermelon production base designated by the Jiangsu Academy of Agricultural Sciences.
