Hougan Village Tomatoes
Hougan Village is a well-known “one village, one product” specialty tomato-growing village. The soil here is fertile and the underground water supply is abundant, with a history of over 30 years in tomato cultivation. Currently, the village has 350 acres of greenhouse facilities and 100 acres of plastic greenhouses. Among the 400-plus households, over 80% of the villagers are engaged in greenhouse tomato farming, yielding considerable economic benefits. Whenever the tomatoes are in season, merchants from Inner Mongolia, Beijing, Langfang, and other areas come in an endless stream. According to Wang Lianhai, the Party branch secretary of Hougan Village, in order to ensure the competitiveness and quality of the tomatoes in the market, the village regularly conducts soil testing, water testing, and air quality testing. It selects superior varieties and has established connections with multiple national vegetable research institutions. The main tomato varieties grown in the village are Zhongyuan No. 1 and Dongsheng No. 1, both of which are indeterminate types with large fruit size, vigorous growth, and no premature aging.
The village has also established Chuangyuan Vegetable Professional Cooperative to help villagers address issues related to tomato cultivation, management, and sales. It has also registered the “Daliang Hougan Village” trademark. Through standardized and large-scale production, it has promoted agricultural efficiency and increased farmers’ income.
