Gaocun Watermelons
Gaocun Township is a well-known watermelon-producing area. Located between Tianjin, Beijing, and Langfang, the township has a well-developed road network, fertile soil, and covers an area of 43 square kilometers.
It is 60 kilometers south of downtown Tianjin, 60 kilometers north of Beijing, 10 kilometers west of the Langfang exit of the Jin-Tang Expressway, and east of the Tianjin-Beijing Highway, offering very convenient transportation. The area has ample electricity supply, with one 35-kilovolt substation (dual power supply) located within the township. The upcoming northern section of the Beijing-Tianjin Expressway will have an exit in the township, featuring eight lanes in both directions, stretching from Beijing’s Sixth Ring Road in the north to Tanggu in Tianjin in the south. The region enjoys a favorable climate with abundant sunlight, encompasses 16 administrative villages, and has a population of 18,000. There are plentiful eco-friendly underground water sources, comprehensive agricultural infrastructure, advanced farming techniques, and high-quality watermelons with high sugar content and a sweet, refreshing taste. The annual output exceeds 50 million kilograms, with the produce being distributed as far as Hebei and Inner Mongolia.
To accelerate economic development, Gaocun Township has seen vigorous economic growth since the reform and opening-up period. Efforts to attract investment have intensified, making the investment environment even more attractive. There are 32 enterprises at the village and township levels, including three wholly foreign-owned enterprises, and 29 joint ventures, collective limited companies, and private enterprises, employing over 1,000 people. Investment policies have become more flexible, attracting hundreds of domestic and international businesses for negotiations, with several companies having already established operations in the area. These enterprises span various industries such as leather, building materials, casting and molding, garments, printing, and bookbinding. Leveraging its strong industrial and agricultural foundation, Gaocun Township exports its products to multiple countries and regions including Southeast Asia, South Korea, Japan, Hong Kong, and the United States.
