Shanghai Fuchun Xiao Long Bao
Shanghai Fuchun Xiao Long Bao
Many restaurants have a long history, but have gradually faded from our view, even been forgotten.
A friend introduced me to Boss Xu, the owner of Fuchun Xiao Long Bao. He spoke with great confidence about his xiao long bao and dim sum. His confidence made me eager to give them a try — something I’d been thinking about for a while.
Finally, one evening when I had nothing else to do, I went. Just as I was worrying about where to park, I happened to see Boss Xu come out. Following his directions, I reversed thirty meters and drove into an alley. The warm welcome from the doorman left a deep impression.
By the time I got inside, Boss Xu had already left — just as I’d hoped. The first-floor snack hall was completely full, with almost every table featuring xiao long bao, while there were still seats available upstairs for stir-fried dishes.
It was time to order. I asked the server, “What other dim sum do you have? What are the specialties among the stir-fried dishes?” The answer was somewhat laughable: “All our dim sum are good, and our stir-fries are mainly home-style dishes.” Hmm, that was basically no answer. Looks like the old saying holds true: rely on yourself, not others.
I ordered xiao long bao, along with some other dim sum. There really were only home-style dishes, so I casually ordered a few. Sometimes home-style dishes can really show off true skill — and so began my journey at Fuchun Xiao Long Bao.
The xiao long bao (3 RMB / 6 pieces) and curry puffs (5 RMB / 3 pieces) arrived at the table the fastest.
