Harbin Specialty Snacks
The distinctive cuisine of Harbin is well-known far and wide. Unique to Heilongjiang, delicacies such as bear’s paw, pig’s snout, hazel grouse, and matsutake mushrooms—wild mountain specialties—are beloved by food connoisseurs. Dishes like poached pork slices with blood sausage, sauerkraut noodles, stir-fried meat with cold jelly noodles, and hot pot are also highly favored. Russian-style cuisine is nutritious, visually appealing, and bursting with flavor and crispiness. European-style large loaves of bread, shaped like pot lids and weighing up to 2.5 kilograms each, are a type of Russian bread. Produced in Harbin for over 80 years, they are one of the city’s signature foods.
In addition, there are traditional snacks such as frozen dumplings, frozen fruits, and Lao Dingfeng mooncakes. It’s worth mentioning the delicious frozen dumplings—eating them is a long-standing custom among Harbin locals, especially during the Spring Festival, the most important holiday of the year, when dumplings are an indispensable staple.
