Ling Jujube originated near the ancient Yunju Temple in Sancha Village, Nanshangyue Town, Shunyi District, where it has been cultivated for hundreds of years. In the past, it was a high-quality jujube offered as tribute to the emperor. The Ling Jujube fruit is diamond-shaped, uniformly sized, and turns deep red when ripe, giving it an attractive appearance. Its flesh is sweet, crisp, juicy, and rich in flavor. The tree is adaptable, tolerant of poor soil, drought-resistant, has medium vigor, is highly productive, and the fruit is typically harvested in mid-September.

As the name suggests, the Ling Jujube is diamond-shaped—pointed on both sides and bulging in the middle, hence the name.

Ling Jujube is a specialty of Dashiwo Town. Town Mayor Li Zhonghua said: “Ling Jujube cultivation now covers over 10,000 mu, generating an annual output value of 6 to 8 million yuan, and has also boosted tourism, fruit picking, and local folk dining industries, contributing over 20 million yuan in annual revenue.”

  [Variety Introduction]

Ling Jujube trees grow at altitudes of around 1,000 meters on mountains. They are adaptable, tolerant of poor soil, and drought-resistant. The Ling Jujube is a cultivated and selected variety grafted from wild sour jujube. It combines the outward appearance of the parent Ling Jujube plant with the sweet-and-sour taste advantage of wild sour jujube.

Ling Jujube has more juice and is sweeter and crisper than ordinary jujubes. Tests show that Ling Jujube contains 4.5% protein per 100 grams, and especially high vitamin C content of about 500–700 mg. This is not only far higher than that of regular jujubes, but also nearly double the vitamin C content of kiwifruit.
