Wudalianchi is home to fish from 10 families and 39 species, including common types such as crucian carp, common carp, “meal” fish, silver carp, bighead carp, and grass carp. The distribution of species across the various pools shows no significant difference, but population sizes vary markedly. Pool 3 currently has the highest number of silver carp due to the introduction of silver carp and bighead carp.
The lake water temperature in Wudalianchi rises above 10°C in mid-May and falls below 10°C in late September, with the highest water temperature occurring in July (20–26°C). Wudalianchi is home to fish from 10 families and 39 species, including common types such as crucian carp, common carp, “meal” fish, silver carp, bighead carp, and grass carp. The distribution of species across the various pools shows no significant difference, but population sizes vary markedly. Pool 3 currently has the highest number of silver carp, followed by crucian carp, blunt-snout bream, and common carp, while Pool 5 has the most common carp. Pools 1, 2, and 4 all have the highest population of crucian carp. In total, there are 10 families and 39 species, with common species including crucian carp, common carp, topmouth culter, silver carp, bighead carp, and grass carp. In the 1990s, a total of 74 genera and 177 species of phytoplankton were identified in Wudalianchi.
Geographic Scope
Wudalianchi Nature Reserve is located in Heilongjiang Province on the western side of the Lesser Khingan Mountains. Wudalianchi is a “UNESCO Global Geopark,” a national key “Scenic Area and Nature Reserve,” and its mineral water is one of the world’s three major cold mineral springs, making it China’s only cold mineral spring health resort. The protected area for Wudalianchi Silver Carp spans 2,200 hectares, encompassing eight naturally formed pools: Pool 1, Pool 2, Pool 3, Pool 4, Pool 5, South Crescent Pool, North Crescent Pool, and Medicine Spring Lake. The annual production of mineral spring silver carp is 300 tons. The geographical coordinates are 126°00′–126°26′ east longitude and 48°34′–48°48′ north latitude.
