In 1997, they were named the "Hometown of Purple-flowered Oil Bean Pods in China" by the Organizing Committee for the Promotion and Publicity of China's Specialty Product Hometowns.

  As a county with distinctive economic strengths, Yian County has seen rapid economic development. Its main specialty products include "sugar, geese, dairy, beans, vegetables, and potatoes." It has been awarded the title of "Hometown of Purple-flowered Oil Bean Pods in China" and is renowned nationwide as the "Shining Pearl of Northern China" and the "Beautiful City of Green Food."     Yian County is located in the western part of Heilongjiang Province, at the southern foothills of the Lesser Khingan Mountains, on the northern edge of the Songnen Plain, and in the northeastern part of Qiqihar City. It borders Baiquan County to the east, Fuyu County to the west, Keshan and Nehe Counties to the north, and Lindian and Mingshui Counties to the south. The region experiences hot and rainy summers, alternating spring and autumn winds with rapid temperature changes and strong gusts—spring can see extreme winds up to Force 10. It has a cold temperate continental climate with long, cold, and dry winters. Most rivers are seasonal, including the Wuyuer River, Shuangyang River, and Baoquan River.
