Yian Goose
Yian Goose is a protected geographical indication product.
Yian, derived from the name of the "Yikeming'an Banner" (a historical banner administrative division), has undergone three distinct historical periods—from the Republic of China (founded in 1923) to 2004—namely the era of the Republic of China, the puppet state of Manchukuo, and the People's Republic of China. Thanks to ongoing development and construction by its residents, along with the proliferation of wildlife and the shifting and evolving natural environment, the area has now become a vast agricultural county rich in resources, blessed with a favorable climate and thriving economy.
Yian County is located in the western part of Heilongjiang Province, at the southern foothills of the Lesser Khingan Mountains and the northern edge of the Songnen Plain, in the northeastern part of Qiqihar City. It borders Baiquan County to the east, Fuyu County to the west, Keshan and Nenjiang counties to the north, and Lindian and Mingshui counties to the south. Major rivers include the Wuyuer River, Shuangyang River, and Baoquan River, all of which are seasonal. The region features a cold temperate continental monsoon climate, characterized by long, cold, and dry winters; warm, rainy summers; and windy spring and autumn seasons with rapid temperature fluctuations. Spring often sees extreme winds reaching up to force 10 on the Beaufort scale.
Yian County has made rapid progress in economic development and is recognized as a county with distinctive economic strengths. Its main specialty products include "sugar, goose, dairy, beans, vegetables, and potatoes." It has been honored as the "Hometown of White Geese in China" and the "Hometown of Purple Flower Oil Bean Pods in China," and is widely renowned across the nation as the "Shining Pearl of Northern China" and the "Beautiful City of Green Food Delicacies."
