Tailai Peanuts

Tailai peanuts are a product with geographical indication.

Tailai peanuts commonly feature triangular or cylindrical shapes. The kernels are round, plump, and smooth-skinned. Each peanut is relatively small, averaging about 7 mm in diameter and around 12 mm in height. The hundred-kernel weight is 50 grams, with an average shelling rate of 68%. The seed coat is red, reddish-brown, or dark red, evenly colored and glossy. The cotyledons are white or milky white, rich in oil yet not greasy, crisp yet not hard, moist yet not sticky, with a pure aroma and long-lasting aftertaste. The trace element content of the peanuts is as follows: crude protein 29.7g/100g, crude fat 46.3g/100g, crude fiber 8.0%, zinc 18mg/kg, selenium <9.5×10⁻³mg/kg. Tailai County began cultivating peanuts in 1970. Due to factors such as natural conditions, yield, price, and market demand, both peanut production and planting area have shown an upward trend amid fluctuations. In 1986, the peanut planting area was 7,721 mu, with a total output of 833 tons. By 2000, the planting area had reached over 63,400 mu, yielding 7,714 tons. After 2001, the peanut planting area grew rapidly. In 2003, the county government launched the "Tailai County Peanut Revitalization Project," which led to a significant increase in planting area that year to nearly 200,000 mu. By 2011, the peanut planting area had stabilized at approximately 400,000 mu, with an annual output of over 60,000 tons.
