Keshan County is known as the “Granary of the North” and the “Hometown of Soybeans.” Keshan soybeans have been awarded a National Geographical Indication Certification Trademark. Keshan soybeans are a nationally protected geographical indication agricultural product.
Keshan County is located in the western part of Heilongjiang Province and the northeastern part of Qiqihar region. The county covers an area of approximately 3,320 square kilometers, with arable land spanning about 3.02 million mu. Blessed with abundant natural resources and fertile soil, Keshan enjoys unique agricultural advantages. It is a key national commodity grain production base, a soybean export base, and a potato base county, earning the titles “Granary of the North” and “Hometown of Soybeans.”
The “Keshan Soybeans” application submitted by the Keshan County Green Food Association of Heilongjiang Province passed the review by the Agricultural Product Quality and Safety Center of the Ministry of Agriculture and expert evaluation, and was granted national agricultural geographical indication registration protection.
The protected geographical indication production area for Keshan soybeans includes 15 townships within Keshan County: Gucheng Town, Shuanghe Township, Henan Township, Hebei Township, Xianghua Township, Gubei Township, Beilian Town, Shuguang Township, Beixing Town, Keshan Town, Xilian Township, Xijian Township, Fazhan Township, Xihe Town, and Xicheng Town. The geographical coordinates range from 125°10′57″ to 126°08′18″ east longitude and 47°50′51″ to 48°33′47″ north latitude.
In 2012, the “Keshan Soybeans” were recognized as a China National Geographical Indication Certification Trademark by the Trademark Office of the State Administration for Industry and Commerce.
Geographical Scope
Keshan County boasts superior natural conditions. Located in the northwest of Heilongjiang Province and the northeast of Qiqihar, it lies in the transitional zone from the Lesser Khingan Mountains to the Songnen Plain. Situated between 47°50′51″ to 48°33′47″ north latitude and 125°10′57″ to 126°08′18″ east longitude, with altitudes ranging from 198.7 meters to 381.7 meters, the terrain consists of undulating hilly plains. The total land area is 314,000 hectares, including 202,000 hectares of arable land. The geographical indication protection area for Keshan soybeans covers 15 townships within Keshan County: Gucheng Town, Shuanghe Township, Henan Township, Hebei Township, Xianghua Township, Gubei Township, Beilian Town, Shuguang Township, Beixing Town, Keshan Town, Xilian Township, Xijian Township, Fazhan Township, Xihe Town, and Xicheng Town. These include 122 administrative villages, with a total protected area of 314,000 hectares. Of this, 130,000 hectares are used for soybean production, yielding a total output of 270,000 tons.
