Introduction to Kedong County’s Natural Soda Water
The natural soda water first discovered in our county is a unique type in China, following similar discoveries in Japan, the former Soviet Union, France, and Germany. This water originates from the Cretaceous sandstone aquifer within the Jian Mountain volcanic fault zone of the Erke Mountain–Wudalianchi–Kelo volcanic activity belt. It is a weakly alkaline, boron-containing, light and cool natural soda water, rich in various trace elements and mineral salts such as metasilicic acid, strontium, lithium, selenium, and iron. This water has significant therapeutic effects on patients with excessive gastric acid secretion, and offers certain health benefits for treating acidosis, excessive uric acid, diabetes, and rheumatism. It is hailed as “Golden Water,” “Liver Water,” and “Water of Life.” In 2008, our county was honored as the “Hometown of China’s Soda Water.”
According to tests conducted by the Heilongjiang Provincial Central Laboratory and the Testing Science Experimental Center of Jilin University, the soda mineral water in our county contains 17 essential trace elements for the human body such as boron, iron, manganese, and copper. The main major elements (milligrams per liter) including potassium, sodium, carbonate, metasilicic acid, and bicarbonate are respectively 1.08, 130.48, 16.505, 14.56, and 324.15. For comparison, the world-renowned Evian brand soda water from the French Alps, as a leading global mineral water, has the following levels of major elements (milligrams per liter): potassium 1.0, sodium 5.0, carbonate 10.0, metasilicic acid 17.5, and bicarbonate 357.0. This shows that most of the major element indicators of our county’s soda mineral water surpass those of the French Evian brand soda water. In 2008, surveys by the Provincial Hydrogeological Engineering Survey Institute revealed that the county’s natural soda water reserves are approximately 10.05×10⁸ m³, with a replenishment rate of about 8,325.15 m³/day and an allowable extraction rate of about 6,660.12 m³/day.
Currently, the initial phase investment by four enterprises, including Haichang Company, has reached nearly 400 million yuan, with an annual soda water production capacity of 400,000 tons. The natural soda water industry has grown from non-existent to nascent, and is gradually maturing, becoming another emerging industry with great development potential for our county after the dairy industry. With the rapid economic development of China and the continuous improvement of individual consumption levels, our county’s natural soda water is sure to win the favor of a wide range of consumers, offering very broad market prospects.
