Pingbei Fritillary Bulb is the dried bulb of Fritillaria ussuriensis Maxim., a plant in the Liliaceae family. Also known as Pingbei, Bei Mu, or Pingbei, it has the effects of clearing heat, moistening the lungs, relieving cough, and resolving phlegm. It is a commonly used traditional Chinese medicine. Though belonging to the Fritillaria genus along with Chuanbei (Sichuan Fritillary) and Zhebei (Zhejiang Fritillary), it shows certain differences in medicinal use. It is mainly distributed in the Changbai Mountain Range and the southern mountainous areas of the Xiao Xing’an Mountains in Northeast China, with major production in Heilongjiang, Jilin, Liaoning, as well as Shanxi, Shaanxi, and Hebei provinces. With a long cultivation history, it is now grown in many regions and yields considerable economic benefits. Wild Pingbei thrives in cool, moist conditions, typically growing in mountain forests and along riverbanks where the soil is rich in humus, loose, fertile, and relatively damp. Cultivated Pingbei prefers loose, fertile sandy loam soil; it is not suitable for planting in clayey, sandy, or low-lying areas.

Pingbei Fritillary Bulb has pharmacological effects such as suppressing cough, eliminating phlegm, calming wheezing, and combating ulcers. The total alkaloids, saponins, and individual alkaloids extracted from Pingbei Fritillary Bulb demonstrate even more pronounced pharmacological effects, making it an essential raw material for developing new formulations. It is one of China’s more valuable and widely used traditional medicinal herbs. TieLi City has over 30 years of experience in Pingbei cultivation, with mature farming techniques, and is the largest Pingbei cultivation area in the country, covering a planting area of 8 million square meters. With the increasing market demand, there is an urgent need to expand the current planting area. Moreover, this project aligns with national and local industrial policies and is a key supported industry initiative. By cultivating Pingbei according to GAP standards and through high-quality, efficient, and scientific management methods—including superior seed selection, site selection, land preparation, field management, and pest and disease control—large-scale cultivation yields good economic returns.
