Schisandra chinensis
Schisandra chinensis, also known as mountain pepper, is a deciduous, woody vine plant. It is a traditional Chinese medicinal herb known for its benefits such as nourishing the lungs, supporting the kidneys, promoting saliva production, and regulating sweating. Modern medical research has found that Schisandra chinensis has tonic and strengthening effects, can improve mental work efficiency, enhance the flexibility of nervous processes, and boost the regulatory functions of the cerebral cortex; it helps regulate abnormal blood pressure, enhances adrenal cortical function, and improves vision and expands the field of vision in both healthy individuals and those with eye diseases. Similar to ginseng and eleuthero, it strengthens the body’s defense against non-specific stimuli and can also inhibit Aspergillus flavus, thereby helping prevent liver cancer. It also improves blood circulation, is highly effective in treating non-icteric infectious hepatitis and persistent hepatitis, and provides good therapeutic effects for depression in psychiatric conditions. Additionally, it serves as an excellent ingredient for cold beverages.
