Candied Plums
Candied Plums
The "Candied Plums" are produced in Yong'anbao Village, Si'hai Town, Yanqing County, and have a history of over 100 years. Originally wild.
Legend has it that a villager from Yong'anbao Village was chopping wood in the mountains when he stumbled upon a wild plum tree. Nestled among the green leaves, the red plums were round and vibrant, with dry pits, thin skins, and thick flesh.
Inside, there were transparent crystals, just like rock candy, and the flavor was sweet, pure, and incredibly delicious. The villager later grafted the tree in his own yard, and thus the "Candied Plums" came to be associated with Yong'anbao Village.
Nowadays, nearly every household in the village grows Candied Plum trees, ranging from several dozen to just five or six. The village produces around 10,000 kilograms of fresh plums annually. Villagers from other villages have visited to transplant or graft these trees, but none have achieved the same delicious taste as those from Yong'anbao. The reason behind this remains a mystery worth exploring.
