Bulrush

Bulrush has been cultivated since ancient times. Before liberation, over 100,000 people on the entire Leizhou Peninsula made a living by growing bulrush and processing bulrush-woven products, which were the city’s main traditional export goods. Planting was more common in the 1960s and 1970s after liberation, but production declined later due to poor distribution channels. In recent years, the bulrush industry has revived, with Suixi, Leizhou, and Taiping in Donghai as the main production areas. Each of these regions has seen the emergence of many specialized households engaged in bulrush cultivation, processing, and distribution.
