Dehui Broiler Chickens
Jilin Dehui is widely known as the "Hometown of Broiler Chickens in China." The region's leading enterprise is Jilin Dedah Co., Ltd., which leads the nation in both production and processing capacity. Dehui City is situated in the central-northern part of Jilin Province, rich in natural resources and located in the hinterland of the Songliao Plain. It spans 3,435 square kilometers, comprises 23 towns, 4 subdistrict offices, and has a total population of 960,000 people, providing uniquely favorable conditions for the development of animal husbandry. In 1996, it was officially designated by the state as the "Hometown of Broiler Chickens in China."
The leading enterprise, Jilin Dedah Co., Ltd., operates 5 grandparent stock farms raising 60,000 breeder hen sets annually; 9 parent stock farms raising 520,000 breeder hen sets annually; and one broiler slaughtering and processing plant capable of processing 50 million broilers per year. Its products are exported to 13 countries and regions including Japan and South Korea, while domestic sales cover all provinces, municipalities, and autonomous regions except Tibet and Taiwan.
Under the leadership of Jilin Dedah Co., Ltd., Dehui’s broiler chicken production has developed into an integrated system combining farming, industry, and commerce, with a complete production-processing-sales chain. The city has successively earned titles such as "Demonstration County for Broiler Chicken Production in Jilin Province" and "Hometown of Broiler Chickens in China." Currently, Dehui not only ranks first in the province in terms of broiler production and processing capacity but has also become a nationally recognized base for broiler production and processing. In 1999, the company achieved sales revenue of 2.5 billion yuan and generated profits and taxes of 104 million yuan. Each township (or town) in Dehui has established a broiler production workstation and built high-standard, high-efficiency broiler production zones. The city has over 2,600 contract broiler farmers raising chickens on behalf of Dedah Co. In 2000, the city produced 35 million broilers, generating over 40 million yuan in net income for farmers. In 2001, the city’s broiler production is expected to grow even further, reaching 50 million broilers annually, enabling more rural households to achieve prosperity through broiler farming. In 2007, the output value of animal husbandry in Dehui accounted for 62% of the total agricultural output value, and the per capita income from animal husbandry made up 45% of the per capita income of farmers. Starting this year, Dehui plans to build 40 to 60 healthy livestock and poultry breeding zones each year. By 2012, the city aims to establish 200 to 300 such zones, with each township constructing or expanding at least two healthy livestock and poultry breeding zones every year.
