A perennial herbaceous plant with fleshy underground stems, reddish-yellow above-ground stems, scale-like leaves, and yellowish-red flowers. The tuber is used medicinally to treat dizziness, headaches, and more.
This product is the dried tuber of the orchid plant Gastrodia elata Bl.
[Properties and Meridian Tropism] Sweet in flavor, neutral in nature. Enters the liver meridian.
[Functions and Indications] Calms the liver, soothes wind, and relieves spasms. Used for headaches, dizziness, numbness in limbs, infantile convulsions, epilepsy, and tetanus.
[Applications]
1. For dizziness and vertigo. For dizziness due to hyperactivity of liver yang, it can be combined with Uncaria and Haliotis; if caused by wind-phlegm, it can be used with Pinellia, Atractylodes, and Poria.
2. For febrile diseases causing wind stirring, convulsions, and epilepsy. For high fever with wind stirring, convulsions, and opisthotonus, it is often combined with Uncaria and Scorpion.
3. For headaches, arthralgia pain, and limb numbness. It is combined with Chuanxiong to treat headaches, and with Scorpion, Frankincense, etc., to treat arthralgia pain. Additionally, for limb numbness and hemiplegia, it is commonly paired with Angelica and Achyranthes, which is frequently used in clinical practice.
