  Jingyu County was formerly known as Mengjiang County. In February 1946, it was renamed Jingyu County in honor of General Yang Jingyu, a national anti-Japanese hero who sacrificed his life here. The county covers an area of 3,094 square kilometers, comprising 8 townships (towns), 111 administrative villages, and 203 natural villages, with a total population of 144,000. The ethnic composition includes Manchu, Korean, Mongolian, Hui, Xibo, Bai, Sui, Miao, Tibetan, and Dong—10 ethnic minorities in total. It is one of China’s northern medicinal bases and one of the main production areas of authentic medicinal herbs from the Changbai Mountains. With years of experience in cultivating medicinal herbs, the unique ecological environment of Jingyu County has created abundant natural resources, earning it the title “Three-Dimensional Resource Treasury.” It has been designated as a sustainable development base for medicinal herbs in Jilin Province. The county has a forest coverage rate of 84%, with a large variety of precious economic plants and animals growing in the forests. Among them, the most economically valuable are several hundred types of medicinal plants, such as Pingbeimu (flatstem milkvetch root), forest-grown ginseng, eleuthero, reishi mushroom, gastrodia elata, schisandra chinensis, dragon bones, and asarum.

  Geographic Scope

  Jingyu County in Jilin Province is located in the heart of the renowned Changbai Mountain range in Northeast China, along the upper reaches of the Songhua River. The area features dense forests, a suitable climate, and abundant resources. Its geographical coordinates are between 126°30′00″ to 127°16′00″ east longitude and 42°06′00″ to 42°48′00″ north latitude, with an average elevation of 775 meters. The geographic protection area for Pingbeimu spans 8 townships in Jingyu County: Chisong Township, Mengjiang Township, Sandao Lake Town, Huayuankou Town, Longquan Town, Nahong Town, Jingshan Town, and Jingyu Town. The Pingbeimu planting area covers 10,000 mu, with a total fresh yield of 10,000 tons.

  Product Quality Characteristics

  (1) External Sensory Characteristics: Jingyu Pingbeimu is flat-spherical in shape, with a surface that is milky white or light yellowish-white. It has two thick outer scale leaves of similar size or with one slightly larger, clasping together. The top is slightly flat or slightly concave, and the central scale is small. The texture is firm yet brittle, with a powdery fracture. It has a faint aroma and a bitter taste. (2) Physicochemical Indicators: The content of peimine B should be ≥0.018%. (3) Safety Requirements: Compliance Standards: Air quality must meet the requirements of GB3095-82 Ambient Air Quality Standard. Irrigation water quality must meet the requirements of GB5084-92 Farmland Irrigation Water Quality Standard. Soil standards must comply with GB15618-1995 Soil Standard. Product standards must follow the 2005 edition of the Chinese Pharmacopoeia.
