Jingyu Forest-Grown Ginseng

Jingyu Forest-Grown Ginseng is a product with a geographical indication for agricultural products.

　　Jingyu County is located in the heart of the Changbai Mountains, with a forest coverage rate as high as 84%, making it one of the main ginseng-producing areas in Jilin Province. The county has taken various measures to shift the focus of its ginseng industry and concentrate efforts on building a forest-grown ginseng production base. Currently, the area under forest-grown ginseng cultivation in the county has reached 3,760 hectares, with potential industrial benefits exceeding 500 million yuan.

　　Relevant departments have carefully formulated the "Jingyu County Forest-Grown Ginseng Industry Development Plan" based on local conditions, with a planned development area of 200,000 mu and a planning period of 10 years.

　　The County Development and Reform Bureau, together with the specialty product management department, has packaged projects for the development of the forest-grown ginseng industry. The total designed investment for the project is 650 million yuan.

　　Support has been provided to leading enterprises in the forest-grown ginseng industry. Based on the overall situation of the county, three municipal-level ginseng industrialization leading enterprises have been selectively supported, focusing on the development of forest-grown ginseng products. To date, four types of forest-grown ginseng products have been developed and have obtained national organic food certification; "Jingyu Forest-Grown Ginseng" has also been granted national geographical indication protection.

　　Geographic Scope

　　Jingyu County is located in the heart of the Changbai Mountains, upstream of the Songhua River. It features dense forests, a favorable climate, and abundant resources, and has been known as the hometown of ginseng since ancient times. The geographic coordinates of Jingyu County are between 126°30′–127°16′ east longitude and 42°06′–42°48′ north latitude, with an average elevation of 775 meters. The protected production area for forest-grown ginseng covers eight townships in Jingyu County: Chisong Township, Mengjiang Township, Sandaohu Town, Huayuankou Town, Longquan Town, Nahong Town, Jingshan Town, and Jingyu Town. The cultivated area of forest-grown ginseng is 100,000 mu, with a total output of 3,000 tons (fresh ginseng).
