Zhuanghe Rice is a specialty of Zhuanghe City, Dalian, Liaoning Province. It is crystal-clear and rich in various minerals and trace elements. Zhuanghe Rice is a nationally protected geographical indication agricultural product.
Rice cultivation in Zhuanghe accounts for three-quarters of Dalian’s total rice production. A long planting history, clear water sources, and fertile soil have helped Zhuanghe rice gain an excellent market reputation. “High-quality seeds,” combined with suitable growing conditions—especially the “saline-alkali soil”—result in rice that is crystal-clear and rich in various minerals and trace elements. In 2004, the ten-thousand-mu rice fields of Sunshine Agriculture were designated as a national-level organic food production base. The “Dongyi” brand Sunshine Rice became a well-known trademark in Liaoning Province. Currently, all aspects of Sunshine Agriculture’s production have been fully mechanized, and its rice processing plant has introduced two of Japan’s most advanced production lines, adopting fully enclosed management with an annual processing capacity of 50,000 tons.
In 2014, “Zhuanghe Rice,” applied for by the Zhuanghe City Agricultural Technology Extension Center, passed the review of the Ministry of Agriculture’s Agricultural Product Quality and Safety Center and expert evaluation, and was implemented under the national geographical indication agricultural product registration and protection system.
