Dongmatun Apples

　　Dongmatun Village is located in the northern mountainous area of Wafangdian City. Its unique geographical and climatic conditions provide favorable environments for fruit growth. The production of apples in Dongmatun Village has a history of over a hundred years, with Red Fuji and Guoguang apples being the most famous. Up to 98% of the households in the village are engaged in apple production, processing, and sales. The annual per capita income is 15,000 yuan, with apple-related income accounting for over 90%. The village has 8,000 mu (approximately 533 hectares) of orchard area, with 220,000 apple trees, producing 20,000 tons of apples annually—all of which are green food produced without the use of pesticides or chemical fertilizers.

　　 On the basis of cultivating a group of specialized apple growers, Dongmatun Village established and developed leading enterprises such as Dongmatun Village Fruit Industry Co., Ltd. and Dongmatun Village Fruit Professional Cooperative. It also built five constant-temperature cold storage facilities with a total storage capacity of 10,000 tons, as well as a fruit wholesale trading market with an annual turnover of 100,000 tons and sales reaching 100 million yuan. The intensification and scaling of production have ensured the establishment of agricultural standardization, enabling Dongmatun Village to build an organic apple production base under the “Dongmatun” brand. This facilitates standardized production across all stages including planting, processing, packaging, and distribution, while strictly adhering to the quality standards and technical regulations for organic and green food production. These efforts have significantly enhanced the market competitiveness of the brand’s products.

　　 In 2009, the Guoguang apples produced in Dongmatun Village were granted a “Geographical Indication Product Certification Trademark” by the State Administration for Industry and Commerce. The village’s “Dongmatun” brand Red Fuji apples, known for their thin skin, bright color, crisp and juicy flesh, balanced sweet-and-sour taste, and adherence to green food production standards, have received high praise from consumers. Dongmatun Village has also been honored with titles such as “2009 Wafangdian City Socialist Construction Model Village” and “Dalian City Civilized Village.”
