Bohai Shrimp Skin
The coastal areas of Wafangdian City are abundant in shrimp skin, accounting for about 60% of the national shrimp skin production. Shrimp skin is the dried product of Acetes, also known as the white shrimp. This small shrimp has a laterally compressed body, thin shell, and typically measures 2.5–4 cm in length. It lives in shallow seas with muddy or sandy bottoms. Acetes are found along all of China’s coasts, but the Bohai Sea coast yields the largest quantity. Shrimp skin is highly nutritious and, among seafood, is considered an affordable and popular delicacy. It contains protein, fat, carbohydrates, calcium, phosphorus, and especially high levels of calcium and phosphorus compared to other seafood.
The processing of shrimp skin involves several steps, including raw material preparation, boiling, sun-drying, and packaging. Fishermen in our city have a long history and rich experience in processing shrimp skin. The shrimp skin produced along our coastal areas is white in color, has good freshness, is free from impurities, and has a long shelf life, making it very popular with consumers.
