Fuzhou Bay Sea Salt is a specialty of Wafangdian, Dalian, Liaoning.

The Fuzhou Bay Salt Field, now known as “Dalian Salt Chemical Group Co., Ltd.”, is one of the four largest sea salt producers in China. Located on the 39th parallel north at the junction of the Bohai Sea, it benefits from exceptionally strong seawater exchange and seawater rich in over eighty trace elements beneficial to human health.

The salt chemical group uses over 30 filtration stages just for filtering the brine, with each stage involving natural filtration through abundant seaweed. That means the same batch of seawater undergoes filtration up to 30 times. This is more than ten rounds more than most other salt fields across the country.

The salt chemical group produces roughly twenty types of edible sea salt, among which “Fuzhou Bay Sea Salt” is the most representative. This is because the soil in Fuzhou Bay is alkaline, which has strong adsorption properties that can filter out most heavy metals from the seawater. In addition, the crystallization cycle of Fuzhou Bay Sea Salt is relatively long—the production process requires a minimum of two years before the salt is allowed to be harvested.

Another uniquely characteristic sea salt produced by the salt chemical group is “Sky-Sun Salt”. Sky-Sun Salt is made using the most traditional method, relying on sunlight to evaporate water and crystallize the salt. The salt is harvested once a day, and any salt produced on rainy days is discarded entirely to ensure purity.

In addition to natural advantages and adherence to traditional craftsmanship, earning the title of “China’s Hometown of Sea Salt” is inseparable from the efforts and innovation of generations at the salt chemical group. They have adopted new techniques—for example, switching from harvesting salt from mud to harvesting it directly from salt crusts—resulting in extremely high purity. They have also developed the world’s first intelligent salt-harvesting robot. It’s a source of great pride for every resident of Dalian that a local salt field has pioneered globally leading technology.

The administrative regions including the streets of Changxingdao and Jiaoliudao in the Changxingdao Economic Zone of Dalian, Liaoning Province, as well as Santai Manchu Ethnic Township, Paoiya Township, and Xietun Town in Wafangdian City, and Fuzhou Bay Street, Paotai Street, Shihe Street, Sanlishipu Street, and Qiding Mountain Street in Jinzhou District, encompassing both land areas and tidal flat waters.
