【Breeding History】
The Jinzhou Horse was developed over seventy years of selective breeding by improving the local Mongolian horse with crosses from several well-known breeds under favorable natural conditions. Initially, starting in 1926, breeds such as the Arabian and Hackney were introduced to crossbreed with local horses. After 1939, around fifty purebred Anglo-Norman and Anglo-Arabian stallions were introduced, which had a significant impact on the breed. Later, Orlov Trotters and half-blood Belgian Draft horses were also brought in. By 1945, the Jinzhou Horse began self-breeding. In 1949, Kabarda horses were brought in to completely replace Jinzhou stallions, but the offspring were not well received by the public, leading to their discontinuation. Starting in 1958, the use of Jinzhou stallions for breeding was resumed. In 1963, the Jin County Stud Farm was established, initiating planned breeding efforts that emphasized self-breeding, careful selection and matching of breeding stock, and the raising of foals. Through approximately twenty years of crossbreeding with multiple breeds and over thirty years of self-breeding, the Jinzhou Horse consolidated its distinctive traits such as a well-proportioned build, agile gait, sturdy physique, and hardiness with stable heredity. In 1982, it was officially recognized at the provincial level as a new dual-purpose (riding and draft) horse breed.
