Dalian Undaria pinnatifida
Dalian undaria pinnatifida is a product with a geographical indication for agricultural produce.
Dalian undaria pinnatifida originated in Korea. In 1934, the Guandongzhou Aquatic Research Institute collected undaria pinnatifida from Korea and released it for trial farming in the sea areas around Dalian’s Laohutan and Lingjiaowan, achieving success. The following year, the cultivated undaria spread to surrounding marine areas, growing very luxuriantly. Artificial farming of Dalian undaria pinnatifida began in 1961, with large-scale cultivation starting in 1981, and entering a phase of rapid development by the late 1980s. Dalian introduced advanced Japanese farming techniques and processing methods, significantly increasing both the yield and quality of undaria pinnatifida in the region. The medicinal value of undaria has been recognized since ancient times. In more recent times, research has found that it is rich in dietary fiber, vitamins, minerals, and anti-cancer substances essential for human health. Particularly, Dalian undaria pinnatifida benefits from its superior geographical origin, outstanding quality, pure color, fresh and crisp taste, and high nutritional value, making it increasingly popular among consumers. Finely processed undaria and its flavored food products have become popular gifts.
Dalian undaria pinnatifida is mainly distributed in the administrative districts of Dalian City, Liaoning Province, including Ganjingzi District, Jinzhou District, Lushunkou District, the Development Zone, and Changhai County. The sea area ranges between 120°58′ and 123°43′ east longitude, and 38°43′ and 40°12′ north latitude. The total farming area of Dalian undaria pinnatifida is 6,000 hectares.
