  Lushun Big Cherries are a specialty of Lushunkou District, Dalian City, Liaoning Province. As the “Hometown of Big Cherries in China,” Lushunkou District enjoys a national reputation for the quality and taste of its cherries. Lushun Big Cherries are a nationally protected geographical indication agricultural product.

  Lushun Big Cherries have a long cultivation history. Introduced and planted since the last century, they have been grown for a hundred years. The district now has 102,000 mu of cherry orchards, with 50,000 mu of bearing trees. Forty-four high-standard thousand-mu demonstration cherry orchards have been established, with total production exceeding 20,000 tons. The area has earned the honorary title of “Hometown of Big Cherries in China,” and Lushun Big Cherries have been recognized by the Ministry of Agriculture as a “nationally geographically indicated certified” agricultural product.

  In 2010, “Lushun Big Cherries,” applied for by the Lushunkou District Agricultural Technology Extension Center, passed the review of the Agricultural Product Quality and Safety Center of the Ministry of Agriculture and expert evaluation, and were registered and protected as a national geographical indication agricultural product.

  The designated geographical protection area for Lushun Big Cherries: Lushunkou District is located at the southernmost tip of the Liaodong Peninsula, extending east to Huangnichuan Village in Longwangtang Subdistrict, west to Dadianzi Village in Shuangdaowan Subdistrict, south to Chenjia Village in Tieshan Subdistrict, and north to Zhaojia Village in Changcheng Subdistrict. The geographical coordinates are longitude 120°57′–121°28′30″ and latitude 38°40′–39°10′.

  Geographical Area

  Lushunkou District is located at the southernmost tip of the Liaodong Peninsula, between longitude 120°57′ and 121°28′30″, and latitude 38°40′ and 39°10′, with a coastline of 169.7 kilometers. It extends east to Huangnichuan Village in Longwangtang Subdistrict, west to Dadianzi Village in Shuangdaowan Subdistrict, south to Chenjia Village in Tieshan Subdistrict, and north to Zhaojia Village in Changcheng Subdistrict. The protected area covers 210,000 mu. The district has 102,000 mu of cherry orchards, with an average yield of 600 jin per mu. In 2009, the total cherry production exceeded 10,000 tons.
