Jinbeilian Red Adzuki Beans
The “Jinbeilian” brand of red adzuki beans has been hailed by Japanese and Korean buyers as the world’s finest bean ingredient, and is known as the “unique product of Beijing.” The bean industry has been referred to as a “characteristic industry of Beijing” by the city’s mayor.
The Beijing Jinbeilian Red Adzuki Bean Professional Cooperative was established in July 2007, primarily engaged in the research and development, planting, promotion, processing, sales, as well as technical and information services. It has a registered capital of 500,000 yuan and 226 member households.
The cooperative adopts a model of “leading enterprise + research institution + cooperative + farmers + planting base,” promoting the cultivation of 50,000 mu of beans within the district through “contract farming,” involving 2,000 farmer households. In the process of promoting cultivation, the following measures have been implemented:
1. Implementing a new “six unifications” supporting service model—namely unified seeds, unified broad-spectrum high-efficiency bio-pesticides, unified supply of organic fertilizer, unified provision of sowing machinery, unified technical standards, and unified purchasing and inspection—to ensure product quality.
2. Establishing a risk mutual aid system. In 2008, the cooperative insured a total of 31,250 mu of planting area, with an insured amount of 270,000 yuan, reducing the planting risks for farmers.
3. Providing pre-production, in-production, and post-production information services. A service model is maintained that includes pre-production training, in-production observation visits, and post-production summaries, covering everything from plot selection, seed selection, field management, to pest and disease control. This has enhanced farmers' awareness of standardized practices and their enthusiasm for planting.
The effective implementation of these measures has yielded significant results for the cooperative.
1. Through contract farming centered on Fangshan District and extending to Huairou, Miyun, Shunyi in the suburbs of Beijing, as well as Liaoning, Inner Mongolia, and Hebei, the cooperative has developed a bean planting area of 50,000 mu. It has involved 20,000 farmer households in planting, yielding 10,000 tons of various beans and coarse grains annually, with an average yield increase of 80 jin per mu and an average income increase of 260 yuan per mu. This has created a pattern of “small farmers, large bases; small scale, large market.”
2. The cooperative’s “Export Red Adzuki Bean Base Construction” project has been included in the National Spark Program by the Ministry of Science and Technology, as well as being recognized as a national-level science and technology service demonstration project. Its high-quality, high-yield soybean and red adzuki bean varieties and products have all obtained HACCP food safety management system certification, Green Food AA certification, and organic product certification. Among them, the “Jinbeilian” brand of red adzuki beans has been called the world’s best bean ingredient by Japanese and Korean buyers, and is known as the “unique product of Beijing.” The bean industry has been referred to as a “characteristic industry of Beijing” by the city’s mayor.
