Farmers in Shili Village, Ping’anbao Town, Changtu County have embarked on a path to prosperity through technology by adopting the small arch greenhouse planting model.

At the carrot planting base, farmers have covered their fields with small arch greenhouses. Liu Xiaoping, a villager, explained that this method of growing carrots fills a gap in market supply compared to those grown in open fields, and offers the advantages of lower cost, reduced production risk, simple and easy-to-master techniques, and higher economic returns. With the use of small arch greenhouses, yields are significantly higher than in bare-field cultivation — one mu can produce up to 8,000 jin, whereas bare-field carrots yield about 5,000 jin per mu. The price of small arch greenhouse carrots is 0.6 to 0.7 yuan per jin, while bare-field carrots fetch only 0.4 to 0.5 yuan. Calculated out, the income per mu from small arch greenhouses is 5,600 yuan, compared to just 2,500 yuan for bare fields. Moreover, using small arch greenhouses allows for double cropping — after the first harvest, another crop of carrots can be planted. The carrots currently being grown can be harvested in early July, and after that, another crop can be planted for autumn harvest, effectively generating an additional income stream each year.
