Goizhou Peaches
Goizhou Peaches are a product certified with a Geographical Indication for Agricultural Products.
Goizhou Peaches are produced in Gaizhou City, Yingkou, Liaoning Province. The protected geographical indication area includes a total of 23 towns, farms, and offices such as Jiuzhai Town and Guizhou Town. The geographical coordinates are between 121°56′44″–122°53′26″ east longitude and 39°55′12″–40°33′55″ north latitude. The total planting area is 80,000 mu. In 2014, it was registered as a Geographical Indication for Agricultural Products by the Ministry of Agriculture, with the certificate held by the Gaizhou Fruit Tree Technology Research and Extension Center. Gaizhou is located in the central part of the Liaodong Peninsula and is a well-known fruit-producing region. Most peach-growing areas are in mountainous regions with sandy soil. The area enjoys an average annual sunshine duration of 2,600–2,900 hours and abundant water resources, making it highly suitable for peach tree cultivation. Goizhou Peaches mainly consist of nectarines, which are characterized by their large size — the average single fruit weighs 300g, with the largest reaching up to 600g. They have bright, attractive colors, with over 80% of the fruit surface covered in vibrant red. The internal quality is excellent, offering a well-balanced sweet and sour taste, and they are resistant to storage, remaining fresh at room temperature for about 10 days. Gaizhou is the birthplace of China’s earliest facility-grown peach production and a hub for the dissemination of related technologies. From 1995 to 1998, the Liaoning Academy of Fruit Tree Research conducted studies on variety selection and cultivation techniques for facility-grown peaches. They developed an integrated technology package for flower promotion, early fruiting, high yield, and premium quality, which was demonstrated and applied in production. This earned them the First Prize for Scientific and Technological Progress from the provincial government, and the techniques have since been promoted nationwide. By 2012, the facility-grown peach production area in Gaizhou had reached over 30,000 mu, generating an economic benefit of 600 million yuan. In recent years, the Gaizhou Municipal Party Committee and Municipal Government have vigorously implemented the strategy of “revitalizing agriculture and the city through fruit production,” leading to significant development in the Goizhou Peach industry. The products are sold across the country, including in Beijing, Shanghai, Guangdong, and Heilongjiang, with some even exported to Russia and South Korea. Goizhou Peaches have become a leading agricultural industry in Gaizhou.
