Gaizhou City is situated in the optimal Bohai Bay fruit cultivation region in China and is a well-known fruit-producing area. Among them, Huludao Grape cultivation has a long history. According to the "Liaodong Chronicles," grape cultivation was recorded as early as the 14th year of the Jiajing reign during the Ming Dynasty, which is over 470 years ago. The "Gaiping County Chronicles" also document grape cultivation in the 21st year of the Kangxi reign. Huludao Grapes are characterized by large clusters, averaging 800–1000 grams per cluster, with some reaching up to 1600 grams. The individual grapes are also large, averaging around 15 grams per berry—about 3–5 grams heavier than other Kyoho varieties, with the largest reaching up to 20 grams. Testing shows that Huludao Grapes have a soluble solids content as high as 17–19% and total soluble sugar content of 17–20%, both about 3 percentage points higher than other grape varieties. Huludao Grapes are highly adaptable with strong resistance, featuring moderately firm flesh, sweet and juicy taste, and excellent flavor. The region boasts abundant grape resources. The Gaizhou Municipal Party Committee and Government have vigorously implemented the strategy of “prospering agriculture and the city through fruit,” leading to rapid development in fruit production. In 2012, the planting area of Kyoho Grapes reached 100,000 mu, with an output of 200,000 tons. In recent years, protected cultivation of grapes has become very popular among farmers. By 2012, the area under protected cultivation of grapes in Gaizhou had reached over 20,000 mu, generating benefits of 600 million yuan. Huludao Grapes have become a leading industry in the agricultural development of Gaizhou City and one of the main fresh grape production areas in Liaoning Province.
