Jianping Tapestry Embroidery, also known as "Imperial Embroidery," can fully showcase the three-dimensional effect of patterns and reproduce the unique charm of artwork. The embroidery features a wide range of themes and strong expressiveness. The entire image is non-reflective, offering a soft visual experience, and achieves artistic effects in form, color, craftsmanship, light, and smoothness. It is a distinctive marvel of arts and crafts and a protected traditional handicraft variety.

There is no precise historical evidence regarding when Jianping Tapestry Embroidery art originated. However, according to records, similar tapestry embroidery stitch patterns appeared on German peasant clothing, wall hangings, and altar items in the 14th century. After the 16th century, European textile technology advanced significantly. Successive British royal ladies, including Mary I and Queen Elizabeth I, practiced tapestry embroidery, leading to the development of professional tapestry production. Later, foreign merchants established businesses in the Shandong area, organizing local women to produce tapestry products. At that time, the Qing emperor placed great importance on this craft and repeatedly organized and selected master tapestry embroiderers to create palace carpets, screens, and wall hangings, bestowing upon tapestry embroidery the title of "Imperial Embroidery." Yang Xibin from Jianping County had ancestral roots in Shandong, where his family had produced a large number of tapestry embroidery works. As a master tapestry embroiderer, he was selected to craft "Imperial Tapestries" for Emperor Tongzhi. He later relocated to Jianping, bringing the tapestry embroidery craft with him and thus founding the Jianping Yang Family Tapestry Embroidery.

Jianping Yang Family Tapestry Embroidery, combined with other outstanding traditional Chinese embroidery styles, has developed into a handicraft variety with distinct northeastern characteristics. It is a handcrafted product embroidered with cashmere yarn on specially made linen mesh fabric. The cashmere yarn used has long fibers and strong tensile strength. Its unique feature lies in the processes of self-dyeing, yarn splitting, and color blending, which allow for the creation of images with extremely rich tones and subtly shifting colors. It excels at representing the artistic effects of oil paintings, traditional Chinese paintings, and color photography—offering vibrant colors, clear layering, lifelike imagery, and a strikingly realistic appearance. Due to the countless strands of yarn used, it is ideal for embroidering colorful oil paintings and color photographs, including portraits and landscapes.

Jianping Yang Family Tapestry Embroidery stands out for its diverse stitching techniques and exquisite craftsmanship. In terms of variety, it has evolved from producing only simple folk ornaments to creating large-scale artworks such as figures, animals, and landscapes. These works are vividly realistic, rich in color, clearly layered, strongly three-dimensional, and beautifully lined, forming a cohesive whole. This has given rise to the bold and unrestrained "Northeastern School" art style. Its characteristics include drawing inspiration from traditional Chinese embroidery techniques, enriching the content of "Northeastern School" tapestry embroidery through varied stitching methods, fabric splicing, yarn splitting, and color blending. Through artistic re-creation, it skillfully combines form, color, spirit, and light. The stitching techniques include dozens of artistic expressions such as diagonal stitches, cross-stitch satin stitches, small stitches, random stitches, floating stitches, pick stitches, insertion stitches, and fabric-drawing stitches, resulting in an artwork with a rich artistic language. The specially treated tapestry embroidery artworks are mold-resistant and mothproof, not only extending their lifespan but also enhancing their artistic appeal. In terms of technique and color, it has evolved from simple hues to methods such as color-blending embroidery and tone-matching embroidery. The images are non-reflective, featuring a unique style that is rugged yet delicate, bold yet grand, delivering a powerful emotional impact and endless artistic enjoyment.
