Honduras Sherry Barrel Coffee and Litchi Orchid have garnered significant attention from domestic coffee enthusiasts for their unique flavors. Honduras has emerged as a rising star in the specialty coffee-producing world in recent years. So, what other specialty coffee farms in Honduras are worth recommending? Today, we’ll introduce you to Honduras’ Bay Laurel Estate.

The Bay Laurel Estate is a newly risen star among Honduras’ specialty coffee farms. After participating in the Honduras Cup of Excellence (CoE) competition in 2017, it won the championship with an impressive score of 91.81, and broke historical bidding records with prices reaching $124.50 and $122.90 per pound. With such outstanding achievements, this estate has attracted widespread attention—so what makes it so unique in producing specialty coffee?

Bay Laurel Estate (El Laurel) is located near Danli City in El Paraíso Province, one of the six major coffee-growing regions in southern Honduras, nestled in the northwestern mountainous area. The cultivation area sits at an altitude of 1,400 meters, with an annual rainfall of about 2,000 mm. Its exceptional geographical environment and climatic conditions are essential and sufficient for producing high-quality coffee. The owner, Oscar Daniel Ramirez Valerio, was given half a hectare of land by his father to grow crops, and later acquired additional plots himself—this makes up the entirety of the Bay Laurel Estate’s planting area. The estate is managed by the owner and his wife. During harvest season, the owner hires 10 to 15 workers, and his son also pitches in when he has time.
