What kind of coffee tastes good? What coffee is worth a higher price? Before there is a universally accepted standard, it’s hard for people to give an answer. As consumer demand for higher-quality coffee grows, this feedback pushes producers to continuously improve the quality of their beans, striving for excellence. The Cauca region in Colombia began this effort in 2014.

The Cauca Best Cup (Cauca Best Cup) bidding event is jointly organized by well-known U.S. traders, local exporters, and the Colombian Coffee Growers Federation. The first Cauca Best Cup in 2014 received around 200 competition samples, while in 2015 that number more than doubled, with about 500 smallholder farmers competing in the contest. Organizers selected the top 30 samples from over 500 entries, and then an international judging panel cupped and ranked the final top 12. On the last day of the event, green bean buyers and roasters from around the world participated in the bidding.

Competitions like the Cauca Cup do offer tangible benefits. They not only significantly increase the income of smallholder farmers and provide opportunities to improve their living conditions, but also encourage them to invest more effort and expertise in coffee cultivation and production, leading to higher-quality beans.

This Colombian Cauca washed coffee features a distinctly bright lime acidity, with grape juice-like sourness, rich floral notes, high acidity, pleasant sweetness, medium body, and a nutty aftertaste in the finish. Overall, it is clean, mild, smooth in texture, and offers a balanced, lively, and multi-layered flavor profile.
