Luobunur Sheep
Luobunur Sheep
"Clad in cashmere, treading golden paths, drinking mineral water, feasting on Chinese herbal medicine, and excreting Liuwei Dihuang Pills" — this saying describes sheep from Xinjiang. The Luobunur lamb from Yuli County is considered premium among Xinjiang’s lamb. The region is covered with vast expanses of licorice, Apocynum venetum, and ephedra, which serve as the main forage for Luobunur sheep. As a result, the meat is tender, flavorful, and free from gaminess, with a nutritional value comparable to that of Tarim deer meat. Lamb skewers threaded on tamarisk branches and grilled with just salt over the Gobi Desert are a famous snack in the Bayingolin Prefecture.
