Yongning Red Globe Grapes
Yongning Red Globe Grapes are a specialty of Yongning County, Yinchuan City, Ningxia Hui Autonomous Region. The late-maturing Red Globe Grapes from Yongning are large in size, with big clusters, excellent coloration, high sugar content, and good storage and transportability, making them an advantageous variety for export.
The soil in Yongning County is mainly light gray calcareous soil, with a predominantly sandy loam texture. The effective soil layer is 15–80 cm thick, the effective accumulated temperature is 3,300°C, there is long sunshine duration, large diurnal temperature variation, annual precipitation of 202 mm, and evaporation of 1,400–2,600 mm—all conditions that are very favorable for grape production. This is especially evident in the accumulation of sugar in the grapes and the coloration of the berries. The unique geographical environment and climate enable the production of top-quality grapes.
Red Globe Grapes, also known as Red Earth or commonly referred to as American Red Globe, Big Red Ball, or Late Red, are of the Eurasian species. They were introduced from the United States in 1987. Introduced to Ningxia in 1996, Yongning County started cultivating them that same year. They have now expanded to 1,500 mu of open-field cultivation and 1,500 mu of greenhouse cultivation.

On December 4, 2010, at the “National Protected Cultivation Grape Technology Seminar,” Yongning County’s Red Globe Grapes won the gold award in the “National Protected Cultivation Late-Maturing Grape” evaluation.
