Gonghe Scallions

　　Scallions are a specialty and advantageous industry in Zhengning County, with a long cultivation history. They feature long white stems, tender and delicious taste, fragrant but not spicy, and stay afloat rather than sink in soups. Rich in protein, vitamins, sulfur, phosphorus, iron, and other minerals, the “Gonghe” brand scallions received national green certification in 2004, earning widespread acclaim across the Qinlong region and winning strong consumer favor.

　　 In recent years, the county has focused on sustainable income growth for farmers and efficient mountainous land development. By adopting a model of zero-subsidy guidance and independent management by local growers, production has shifted from scattered spontaneous planting to administratively promoted large-scale development. The product focus has also moved from self-sufficiency to building marketable brands, transforming product advantages into commercial strengths and industry advantages into economic benefits. This has achieved three major breakthroughs in planting regions, scale, and technology innovation. In 2006, one 10,000-mu township (Gonghe), two 5,000-mu townships (Yongzheng and Qiushutou), and nine demonstration sites over 1,000 mu were established, with 50,000 mu planted, 5,000 mu under sales contracts, output value exceeding 50 million yuan, and per capita income growth over 200 yuan. In 2007, there were 2 townships with 10,000 mu each, 10 villages with 1,000 mu each, total scallion area reached 35,000 mu, output value surpassed 35 million yuan, and per capita income increased by over 160 yuan.
