Zhengning Flue-Cured Tobacco
Zhengning County is one of the provincially designated flue-cured tobacco base counties. It has a long history of tobacco cultivation. As early as the Tang Dynasty, the sun-cured tobacco produced in Luochuan, Zhengning, was offered as a tribute and praised as “Tangtai Tobacco.” For thousands of years, “Tangtai Tobacco” has remained popular and continues to be a major economic activity for local residents. Flue-cured tobacco also has a long planting history and rich production experience in Zhengning County. Its trial cultivation began in 1958, and by 1981, it had reached a considerable scale. In 2006, the county’s flue-cured tobacco planting area covered 118,600 mu, spanning across the entire region. A number of specialized villages and key households emerged. Flue-cured tobacco is a major pillar of Zhengning County’s economy and a key product helping farmers escape poverty and achieve prosperity.
