Qianyang Apples

　　Qianyang apples are a specialty of Qianyang County in Baoji City, Shaanxi Province. Qianyang is an ideal apple-growing region, blessed with suitable temperatures, abundant sunlight, and significant day-night temperature differences. The apples produced here are bright in color, thin-skinned and crisp, with high sugar content, making them deliciously sweet and highly favored by merchants.

　　Qianyang County is located in the northern part of Baoji, within the hilly and gully dry plateau region of northern Weihe. Its terrain is characterized as “seven parts mountains, two parts plateau, and one part plain.” With a small population and vast land area, it is a typical mountainous agricultural county and also one of the best apple-growing regions in Shaanxi. Currently, the county has 29,800 mu of apple orchards, with 10,000 mu bearing fruit. Major varieties include Fuji and Qin Guan, and the produce is sold to major cities such as Guangzhou and Chengdu.

　　In 1996, Fuji and Qin Guan apples from Sanhe Village in Nanzhai Town were ranked among the top-quality fruits in Shaanxi Province. In 1998 and 1999, our county’s Fuji apples won the “Houji Golden Statue Award” at the Yangling Agricultural Expo for two consecutive years, and three varieties have successively received municipal-level awards for quality fruit. A 523-mu apple orchard in Sanhe Village, Nanzhai Town, and Wujia Banshan, Zhangjiayuan Town, has been developed into a municipal-level high-quality demonstration garden.
