Xixiang Cherries
Wild cherries in Asia and Europe each have two major varieties that are completely unrelated to each other, and all other cherries have been cultivated later. They are mainly distributed in the Northern Hemisphere around the world, and in China they are primarily produced in Liaoning, Hebei, Shaanxi, Gansu, Shandong, Henan, Jiangsu, Zhejiang, Jiangxi, and Sichuan. They grow on sunny slopes or along ditches, are often cultivated, and thrive at altitudes of 300–600 meters.
Xixiang County in Shaanxi Province is home to the largest cherry base in Northwest China—Cherry Valley, where an annual Cherry Festival is held in late April.
