Sansui Straw Hat
A Guizhou specialty — the Sansui Straw Hat is produced in Wazhai Town, Sansui County, and is a traditional renowned product. Made from fine bamboo strips, palm fiber, and glossy oil, the hat features a woven grid pattern, a round shape, slanted brim, and pointed top. It is both attractive and durable, lightweight and convenient, offering protection from both rain and sun.
Specialty Culture: The Sansui Wazhai Straw Hat is not only a practical tool for daily life to protect against sun and rain, but also a collectible piece of bamboo weaving craftsmanship. The product is exported to countries such as Thailand, France, and the United States. In 1984, the Wazhai Straw Hat was presented as a state gift to then-U.S. President Ronald Reagan during his visit to China. As a result, Wazhai Town has earned the title “Hometown of the Straw Hat.” In 2009, it was designated as a county-level intangible cultural heritage of Guizhou Province.
Specialty Function: The Sansui Wazhai Straw Hat provides shade on sunny days and shelter from rain when wet. Thanks to its material and weaving technique, it is lightweight, elegant, and highly practical, without feeling stuffy when worn. It is a treasured item for household labor, production, and folk craft collection.
