Rongjiang Xili Gong Rice comes from Rongjiang County’s traditional high-quality conventional rice variety "Xili Youzhan." Known for its fragrant aroma, excellent quality, and the fact that the rice plants (seedlings), panicles, and cooked grains all give off a pleasant fragrance, it is locally referred to as "fragrant rice" or "aromatic rice," and is celebrated with the saying, "one household cooking rice fills ten households with fragrance, one village cooking rice perfumes the air for miles." It is widely used by locals as a nourishing dietary staple for postpartum women, infants, the elderly, and the infirm. Xili Gong Rice is of premium quality. It has been awarded titles such as "Famous Product at the 2001 China International Agricultural Expo," "Guizhou Province High-Quality Agricultural Product" by the Guizhou Provincial Department of Agriculture in 2003, "High-Quality Agricultural Product at the 2005 Fourth China Agricultural Expo," "Gold Award for Agricultural Products at the 2005 First Qiandongnan Prefecture Agricultural Products Expo," "High-Quality Agricultural Product at the 2006 Fifth China Agricultural Expo," and "Guizhou Province Branded Agricultural Product" by the Guizhou Provincial Department of Agriculture in 2007.

Xili Gong Rice is a local Youzhan rice variety from Xili in Zhongcheng Town, Rongjiang. As early as the Ming and Qing dynasties, it was offered as tribute to the imperial court due to its fragrant aroma, rich oiliness, and delicious taste. Xili Gong Rice is rich in various essential trace elements needed by the human body and is classified as a selenium- and zinc-enriched product, making it highly favored by consumers. The quality of "Xili Gong Rice" is outstanding. According to testing conducted by the Rice and Rice Products Quality Supervision and Inspection Center of the Ministry of Agriculture in July 1999: "Protein content is 9.0%, chalky grain rate is 8.0%, grain length is uniform with an average length of 7.2mm, length-to-width ratio is 3.64:1, translucent with a glossy appearance, no residues, meeting the national grain hygiene standard GB2715—85, overall evaluation as top-grade rice." In the 1990s, Rongjiang expanded its cultivation and implemented a three-tier selection process for purification and rejuvenation, resulting in improved yield and quality. By 2001, a 10,000-mu commercial production base for Xili Gong Rice had been developed. Currently, the "company + association + base" model is being used to expand the planting base. Contracts guarantee farmers a fixed price for their "Xili Gong Rice" grain, which is then centrally processed and sold, achieving agricultural product branding and industrialization. The current planting area across the county is nearly 20,000 mu, with plans to expand to 50,000 mu. Annual production is expected to reach 17,500 tons. Production and management enterprises such as Shengtai Agricultural Products Development Co., Ltd. in Rongjiang, together with associations established in various townships and villages, have built polished rice production lines. The product has reached scale and entered markets both within and outside the province. In June 2001, testing by the Rice and Rice Products Quality Supervision and Inspection Testing Center of the Ministry of Agriculture rated "Xili Brand Xili Gong Rice" as being on par in quality with "Jinxiang Brand Thai Jasmine Rice." At the 2001 China International Agricultural Expo, Xili Gong Rice was honored with the title of Famous Product.
