Weng'an Kiwifruit
Weng'an kiwifruit is a specialty of Weng'an County in Qiannan Prefecture, Guizhou Province. The climate in Weng'an is highly suitable for kiwifruit cultivation, with the main variety being Hongyang kiwifruit.
The kiwifruit industry in Weng'an has developed rapidly in recent years. Currently, kiwifruit bases are mainly operated by Guizhou Tianhao Agricultural Resources Development Co., Ltd. and the Songping Dashan Kiwifruit Specialized Cooperative in Houchang Town. Relying on poverty alleviation funding projects and central modern agricultural development funds, the industry has continued to grow under a "company + cooperative + base + farmer" development model.
The main kiwifruit variety in Weng'an is Hongyang. In 2013, an additional 3,000 acres were planted, bringing the total countywide planting area to 13,300 acres. Some areas have now entered peak production, with an average yield of around 1,500 kilograms per acre and an average output value of over 15,000 yuan per acre. There is currently one kiwifruit seedling cultivation center, three cold storage facilities, and a 200-square-meter product inspection and testing lab. The region has also registered the trademarks "Qian Jin Guo," "Li He Ji Guo," and "Ji Tao Da." Plans are underway to build a kiwifruit product processing plant and to obtain pollution-free origin certification as well as product certifications.
The county plans to expand its kiwifruit cultivation to 40,000 acres by 2015, achieving an annual output of 60,000 tons and an output value of 600 million yuan. By 2020, the goal is to reach 80,000 acres, with an annual output of 120,000 tons and an output value of 1.2 billion yuan, making it a key specialty industry that significantly increases farmers' income and prosperity.
