Bamboo Tube Rice
Bamboo Tube Rice is one of the distinctive local foods commonly found among ethnic minorities in Guangxi. The Lingnan region is rich in bamboo, and Pingxiang’s climate and environment are very suitable for bamboo growth. The area has a subtropical transitional climate, with abundant sunshine, ample heat, warm and humid conditions, plentiful rainfall, a long frost-free period, and is suitable for the growth of various plants—especially bamboo.
Pingxiang has a long history of cultivating, using, and processing bamboo. According to records, bamboo processing tools were already in use in Pingxiang as early as the Warring States period. Using bamboo as a tool for processing food is quite unique because of its fragrant aroma. Bamboo Tube Rice involves placing rice and water inside a bamboo segment, sealing it, and then roasting it—this process helps preserve the distinct fragrance of the bamboo.
